about us.
Established in 2004, The Hills Dance Factory is widely recognised as one of the leading Dance Schools in the Hills District. Read on to find out why we are not your average dance school.

the hills dance factory.
We provide a fun yet professional environment in which all students receive the very best tuition in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern Lyrical or Contemporary, Hip Hop/Funk, Acrobatics, Musical Theatre & Modern Irish. Classes are available for all levels of dance experience and all ages from Tiny Tots to Adults. Our teachers are fully qualified professionals, who encourage creativity, passion, self-esteem & achievement.
The Hills Dance Factory operates out of our own professional studios in Dural. We have three fully equipped air-conditioned studios with professional sound systems in all rooms, sprung floors, full size mirrors and barres, as well as a waiting room complete with a shop & kitchenette. Having our own studio space allows us to offer a proper dance environment that is just not possible when dancing in community halls. Students improve greatly when they feel at home at a studio with things like full mirrors and sprung floors to dance on.
The Hills Dance Factory is a little different to most dance schools in that our classes are kept small, as we like to give all students individual attention. We offer all children the opportunity to perform in an Annual Concert, and various Eisteddfods and community Events throughout the year. The Hills Dance Factory has taken many students on the path to becoming professional performers, but we also cater for the relaxed casual dancer who perhaps requires more self esteem, and dance builds confidence builds friendships and builds memories and I am excited to invite you on this journey with us.

Everything you need to know about The Hills Dance Factory and our policies. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions not addressed here.
01 Can I watch my child’s classes?
Parents are not permitted to watch classes unless invited to do so by the teacher. However please feel free to discuss your child’s performance with the teacher outside of class time. The last week of each term is open to parents to come and watch their child in each class.
It’s our experience that younger students are able to concentrate better without the distraction of other noise in the room from parents and other siblings. Our READY SET DANCE program has been endorsed by leading child care experts who support the independent learning model. As preschoolers participate in classes they have the opportunity to develop additional secure attachments with adults (teachers) and peers. This helps them transition positively into the larger world and helps with school readiness.
Having said that, a lot of children are timid at first and need to know that a parent is close by. Our READY SET DANCE program allows parents to watch the first class if necessary to help them adjust.
02 What is watching day?
Watching day is where parents get to view their child dance as an audience in the classroom.
It’s a chance for your child to begin their first step to working on their performance skills. Watching days are normally scheduled for the last week of each term.
03 Are our teachers qualified?
We take child protection very seriously – all teachers and staff at have been checked and approved by Child Protection Authorities and have current Working With Children Certificates. All of our teachers are fully qualified in their field and are passionate & nurturing in their efforts towards helping your child succeed in and enjoy dance.
All READY SET DANCE teachers have their Working with Children Check and follow the program that is endorsed by early learning experts. READY SET DANCE teachers are required to gain their accreditation from READY SET DANCE head office before delivering the program.
04 How do I enrol my child?
All enrolments are made using our online enrolment system. Once you have selected your classes off the timetable, simply click on the “Enrol Here” button on the front page of our website and enter all of your details, select your age group and follow the prompts to select your classes.
As we are not quite out of the woods just yet in regards to Covid19 restrictions, we are obliged to follow our existing Covid Safe Plan. This means that if you wish to trial a class we will need an enrolment to be completed (unfortunately walk ins will not be permitted to enter classes). Current COVID restrictions do limit the number of kids we can have in each room and we do need to have a record of everyone attending. The restrictions also do place some limitations on things like parents in the waiting room etc.
We know that these enrolments are not always set in concrete and things may change, if after your initial classes you choose not to continue you are under no obligation or locked into paying etc. We want to make sure the studio is a “good fit” for all new students before you commit. We do ask that if you choose to not return you just let us know via email so we can update our records.
05 Do we need to purchase a uniform and shoes?
Students must wear the HDF Studio or READY SET DANCE uniform. However, we need to make sure we are the right fit for you and your child before committing to anything. Comfortable clothes and sneakers are fine for the first couple of lessons. Once your child has settled you can purchase the uniform at reception which we are sure you will love.
Full uniform requirements are outlined on the Uniforms page.
06 Attendance & make up classes
If you need to miss a class for any reason (sickness, holidays, etc) please let us know. Make up classes are available in most cases. If you are away for more that 3 weeks without notification, your position in the class may be given away.
READY SET DANCE students may swap days during Terms 1, 2 and 3 if you miss a class (as long as the make up class is not full). In term 4, each class works on a different routine for the end-of-year concert, and it is too confusing for students to be swapping days. We do recommend that you avoid alternating days too much as preschoolers need the comfort of knowing that the same teacher and their friends will be there when they go to dancing.
07 Waiting lists
Certain classes, which are more popular with students, fill up fast. If we cannot schedule another class at a different time, you can opt to be placed on a waiting list. If a vacancy opens up in that class children on the waiting list will be contacted.
08 Costumes
All students perform at our Annual Concert &/or Eisteddfods and as such will require costumes. As you can see in our photos, costumes are a very important part of the dance experience. We pride ourselves on the costumes we put together for all of our performances. To help reduce costs for families we endeavour where possible to provide hire costumes to all students. As most non troupe costumes are only worn once at the End of Year Concert it makes more sense to hire them.
All troupe students however will be required to purchase costumes that will be used numerous time throughout the year at various Eisteddfods and performances in addition to the End of Year Concert. Cost’s for Troupe costumes can vary, but on average you should expect to pay approx $80.00 – $100.00 per costume.
09 Can I book private lessons?
A limited number of Private lessons with all of our teachers are able to be booked throughout the year. Private lessons are helpful if you need to polish your skills before an exam or with so many opportunities to perform throughout the year available at various Eisteddfods, private lessons are used to learn new routines. Solo or Duo work is encouraged in Ballet (Classical & Modern), Tap, Jazz as well as Song & Dance. Please let your teacher know if you are interested in booking a Private Lesson.
10 Fundraising
We choose to hire fully functioning professional theatres for our end of year performances. Theatres have professional sound & lighting facilities, a great stage, very comfortable seating, a bar, ushers etc. As such we may hold a limited number of fundraisers throughout the year with all the proceeds going towards this night.
As a student of the Hills Dance Factory your support in every fundraiser is greatly appreciated and is invaluable in allowing to put on such a great night.
11 2nd Hand Shoes
We realize that dancing can be an expensive pastime. As such we have a Second Hand Shoe & Uniform program at the studio. This program operates on an honesty system. We supply a cupboard in the studio where you can place your unwanted shoes in a zip lock bag along with an envelope (with your name & asking price on the front).
Parents wishing to purchase your 2nd Hand Shoes simply place their money in the envelope and hand it to the front desk where we will pass it on to you when you next come in. Unfortunately no responsibility can be taken for any lost or stolen shoes. 2nd hand shoes are available to be purchased during the first 4 weeks of Term 1.
